How to Read Before-and-After Photos Thoughtfully

Before-and-after photographs are most useful when they are read as documentation with context, not as a promise of what another person will experience.

Look for Consistent Presentation

Lighting, camera angle, expression, distance and timing can all influence what a comparison appears to show. Consistency makes the comparison easier to interpret.

Ask What Happened Between the Images

Useful context can include treatment category, number of sessions, recovery timing and whether other treatments were part of the plan.

Keep Individual Variation in View

Anatomy, skin quality, treatment response and healing vary. Photography can support a conversation about possibilities, but it cannot predict an individual result.
