Scope first

The quote should explain the work.

A small business website, a growing store and a connected lead workflow solve different problems. Pricing follows the agreed deliverables and the work required to make them reliable.

I do not publish a price that ignores those differences. Share the goal, the current situation and any constraints; we can turn them into a clear, reviewable project scope.

What affects the investment

Four things worth defining early.

Pages and content

The number of distinct page layouts matters alongside the page count. Existing copy, imagery, product data and migration work affect the preparation needed.

Design and functionality

Custom art direction, interaction, commerce, account features and bespoke functionality add different design and development requirements.

Integrations and automation

A contact form is a different scope from a multi-tool lead workflow. External accounts, data mapping, approvals, testing and monitoring need to be understood.

Timeline and ongoing care

Launch timing, review availability, handoff and future maintenance affect how the project is planned. Third-party fees and ongoing responsibilities should be clear.

Useful starting points

Choose the smallest scope that solves the problem.

A template-led website can offer a prepared visual foundation when its structure fits. A custom project suits specific content, visual or functional requirements.

A focused repair or integration can also be a sensible first phase. We can separate an essential launch from later improvements when that serves the business.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Your website URL, if one exists, and what needs to change.
  • The pages, products or workflow you need.
  • Available content and who will prepare anything missing.
  • Required tools, integrations and editing needs.
  • Any target launch date and budget range you want considered.

You do not need a finished brief. A short description of the problem is enough to start.

Before work starts

Know what is included.

The project quote should identify the deliverables, review process, content responsibilities, milestones and handoff. Changes outside the agreed scope are discussed before additional work begins.

Hosting, domains, paid plugins, platform subscriptions and ongoing maintenance are separate considerations. Their ownership and costs are clarified in the proposal rather than assumed.

Questions & answers

A few useful answers

Can you give a quote from a short brief?

A short brief is a useful starting point. A few follow-up details may be needed to make the quote accurate, especially for integrations, migrations or commerce.

Can a project be delivered in phases?

Yes, when the architecture and business need support it. Each phase should have a useful outcome, clear boundaries and its own review criteria.

Is ongoing maintenance part of the price?

Only when it is explicitly included in the agreed scope. Routine care, updates and development support can be scoped separately.

What happens if the scope changes?

We review the effect on work, price and timeline before proceeding. A clear change process helps avoid surprises for both sides.
